New gaming laptop or PC or just upgrade current computer?

I want to buy a new computer but im not sure if i should get a laptop and an external harddrive or a new desktop for a price around $1300. My current computer is a Dimension E310 with windows xp with an intel pentium 4 proccessor with 504 MB of RAM. Im not sure what video card i have because i dont know how to find out. Should i get a new laptop or PC or upgrade my current one?

you wont get the same gaming ability from a laptop as you will a desktop, building your own machine is always the best option as you will get the highest quality components for the lowest possible price.

get 2gigs of ram -$100(around there)
geforce8400gt-$115.50
motherboard 2.4ghz-$200
athlon x2 4200+ -$ cheep and good 150
btw pentium ***** for gaming get athlon

If you are going to use a system for gaming go with a desktop. Better hardware and alot faster thaen a laptop. as far as your current system goes, it wouldnt be able to run hardly any games. Go to they have great systems for great prices. Try to get a system with at least 2.4 ghz processor speed. And 1g of memory. If you have any more questions email. Trust me I know I work in I.T.

DO NOT GET A LAPTOP, i got a gaming one, it broke 4 times. Get a Desktop, trust me. I suggest cyberpowerpc.com or HP.

I would upgrade the ram for sure ,,thats hardly nothing
and get a good video card ,,thats all you need
save your money,you could have somthing for if you put about 500$in it

If you think you have 504 MiB of RAM then you have integrated graphics that is taking 8 MiB from the system RAM of 512 MiB.
Putting a new video card in will make a big difference as will putting some extra RAM in (and don’t bother with external hard drives if you have space to put another hard drive inside your computer).
If you need to carry a computer around with you then you need a laptop but if it’ll just sit on the desk then you’d be better off with a desktop (with a better video card, more RAM and second hard drive what you’ve got should still have some life left in it).

Laptop with external hardware is such a trouble to keep. Most of the times things get messy. So its better to stay away from this. Geforce and Banshee cards are great for gaming and you should get them easily in the desktop for around 1000 to 1400 $. I wouldnt reccomend any sites to buy your computer from, just make a wise decision and buy it from your favorite store near you. Happy gaming:)

you could build an absolutely awesome gaming pc for $1300. You will get a pretty average laptop for that price. Go to the local computer store and get them to put you together a mid-range dual core, 4 gig 800mhz ram, and sli motherboard with two 8800gt’s and an 800wayy power supply. This machine will run any game out there and will probably come in under your budget with full warranty on the parts, including some pretty awesome warranty options on the video cards if you get the right brands.
With any name brand computer you pay for the name and lose out big time on processing power. There is no difference in component quality from a name brand and one that you have had custom built.
